TIME FOR NESTING

NESTING

“Even the sparrow has found a home…………a place near Your altar.”  Psalm 84:3

As we will soon exit the cold dark days of Winter we  have been experiencing, the scripture above spoke to me and caused my thoughts to turn towards the coming Spring weather.  The scripture brought to mind that we will again start hearing choirs of birdsongs;  leaves on the trees will start budding and beautiful blossoms will appear on some; what is now a sea of brown grass will become a beautiful carpet of green again. Are you listening and watching? I have been, and have already started hearing the occasional bird singing outside my windows. (I heard one this morning, in fact)  They are preparing to build their nests and settle into their new home....a new season begins.  We can learn a lesson from these birds and from the above scripture.   The sparrow has found his home and built his nest “near the altar of God.”  That’s exactly what God really wants all of us to do.  And, no matter where we are, our "nest" can be near "God’s altar." We just have to stop and recognize it as such.  What comforting and hopeful thoughts to help lift us out of the doldrums the long Winter season brought, and will do so at all times, really.  We, too can start building and settle in close to God’s altar…..in His presence.

What does it mean to go to His altar actually?  It means that you determine to leave the darkness of life (we have all been there in one way or another) and resolve to enter into the "Light" of something new and exciting...new beginnings!  It can be done friends, as surely as Spring comes after Winter.

Wow!  Now I can get excited about that!  Enough so that I can stop thinking of all that is “wrong in the world," and start thinking of how much God gives us that is “right.”

No, it won’t take away all the problems and anxiety, but it will give our Lord the chance to “help” us carry the load, and it will seem lighter.

So, let’s get busy “anxious bird-friends of mine.”  Gather the sticks, and bits and pieces of our lives, and let God help us mold them into a nest close to His altar.   "How can we do that you ask?"  Simple!   Our altar can be anywhere we are, and no matter what we are doing, just like the little birds. Get into that nest you are making...and "be still!" Listen to what He wants to do through you, in you and for you today. Springtime is almost here! Throw your doors and windows wide open,...take a nice walk....listen to the birds singing a praise song to the Lord as they build their own nests, their homes..... or try just sitting at Jesus feet...and listen!! Winter is almost over!!

Happy Spring, 2020 everyone!!

Thank you Father that we can always “nest” close to you, our guide, healer and protector...our all in all!  May we always be mindful of building our home close to Your altar!
