My Daughter's Testimony

Image
Yes, this is really Alice.....author of Come Sit By Me blog. I have had some health issues lately, and some serious decisions to make, so have been a bit slow with my thoughts and writing. So, this being Sunday, I thought this might be a perfect time to share a devotional that was written by my daughter, Lisa a few years ago.  I hope you will be as blessed as I am as I remember this "precious" day, and how thankful and blessed her Dad and I were for her decision.  Much love Lisa! DID SOMEONE KNOCK? Revelation 3:20 (KJV)  “   Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.” Another beautiful day You have made, Lord!   Thank You for  the time you have so generously given me in my “too busy” life to take a walk and just be alone with You. I thank You and praise You! About fifteen minutes into my walk I pass a woods. This morning I seem to hear more woodpeckers than u

Living in - GOD'S FLOWER GARDEN

Image
“Consider how the lilies grow.   They do not labor or spin.   Yet, I tell you, that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these.”   Luke 12:27 “I’m looking over a four leaf clover, that I overlooked before…….”   Does anyone out there r emember that little song?   It had cute words, but I will be concentrating on the first line in what I am about to share. When just a child I remember how  each year when Spring arrived my Dad would plow a plot of ground to be used for growing vegetables.   Food to be used each day, but also to be canned and preserved for Winter.  How good it would all taste when the snow was flying! When Dad would plow this vegetable garden, he would also plow  a smaller plot for Mom to have a flower garden.   On special days, Sundays usually, when company might be coming, Mom and I would go to her flower garden to cut a bouquet of multi-colored flowers to use on the table, and other places throughout the house. The only problem w

SPRING STORM SEASON IS HERE!!

CAUGHT IN A WHIRLWIND    “We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair;  persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed.”   II Cor. 4:9 After just having extremely severe storms the past few days, my thoughts go back to another time when my late husband and I were caught in such a storm while on our way to a college graduation in the next state over.  The day started out as a beautiful sunny Spring day.   The drive was to take about four hours.   Just about 10 miles from where we would be staying, and while driving on the interstate, the sky became more and more black. We knew we were going to run into a storm before we got to our motel.   But, what happened was not just an ordinary storm.   We hit a "wall" of rain, hail the size of golf balls that were hitting the car and splattering.   The wind was whipping things around in the air; leaves, sticks and who knew what else, were being plastered all over

EVEN DOGS - Come and Sit By Me

A Story From a More Recent Time A few years ago my late husband and I were visiting one of our daughters in Bend, Oregon.   She also has a cabin at Summer Lake, Oregon, which sits out in “no man’s land” with a salt lake in front of it, and the mountains behind it.    The rest is basically wide open spaces.    So we decided make a trip to see her cabin for the first time.   This  daughter is a writer, and into arts and crafts, so this place is a “get-away” place for her where she can have peace and quiet in order to focus on her writing, etc. She is also into mountain climbing, hiking and many other outdoor events.   We decided to stay close by her cabin overnight in a motel so my husband and she could spend some quality time together. Since we lived in Ohio they didn't get to see each other but about once a year. They decided to go hiking, and I was not much into that type of thing. So, I decided to stay at the motel and just let them have their time together.   I h

A HAUNTED HOUSE.....SCARED ME TO "LIFE?"

Image
Hi all! Does my blog subject have you totally confused? I know I would be.  Hopefully I can explain a bit more fully in the following story. I am thinking of a day when I was about 14 years old. Still a shy, bashful young lady living in the little home with mom, dad, three brothers and my baby sister, Faith. Across the street from us and down about four or five houses was a dark, gloomy old empty house. The windows were out, and boards were off here and there. No door. They say it was haunted, but I never wanted to find out!! (smile!) But as the law of averages goes, I "did find out one evening!"  Mom and I had been downtown to the grocery store and were walking home.  As we approached the spot across the street from the "old empty house" I held mom's hand, just because it made me feel more safe. All of a sudden it sounded like someone was on the roof of the old house, and had poured out a big box of rocks.  It was loud, and very scary! Mom and I hurrie

WHAT? A SNOW STORM IN MARCH?

I thought, this being Sunday, I would post something a bit more inspirational and encouraging. Back to my "life lesson stories" next time.  Stay tuned...:-) FOLLOW THE SNOWPLOW  Well, we thought that time of year might be over for us, but the weather people say we could have "some inches" of snow today as a huge storm races across the country. I glance out the window and already see the snowplows preparing for, and even breaking away the snow from the streets.  My thoughts turn to how, at times, that is the way God works in our lives. "How?" you might ask.  Well, again I look at the snow plows clearing the way so people can drive on a smooth, clear path to church, their work, or wherever they need to go. Just as God promised the Israelites when He led them out of bondage in Egypt, He went "before them" in a bright cloud of light by day, and a bright cloud of fire by night.  In the same way He promises “He will go before us,” a
